Don Lemon wasn’t having it tonight.
Following a passionate monologue about President Donald Trump‘s “shithole” comments about Haiti, El Salvador and African nations, the CNN anchor gathered a panel to discuss the subject. And, man, things went wild quickly.
Calling on conservative radio host John Fredericks, Lemon noted that Trump’s racist and xenophobic views are “one of the most consistent opinions that this president has.”
“Don, it’s not about race, as you like to make it because that’s easy and lazy, it’s about economics,” Fredericks responded.
After telling Lemon that truer words had never been spoken by the president, the CNN host stopped the Trump-supporting opinion host. And decided he was going to put him in timeout.
“You know what, John Fredericks? You know what, John, until that last comment — yeah, I’m going to cut you off. Can we please cut him off? Can we get rid of John Fredericks? First of all, I was going to let him speak until you doubly insulted me. We can have this conversation, and we don’t need to have someone who is going to make excuses for racism.”
Later on in the show, Lemon brought back Fredericks on the condition that the pundit apologize for calling him lazy. Fredericks told Lemon he was sorry and he meant no offense. Following this moment, Fredericks mixed it up with the other panelists — at one point getting into a vicious debate with Rick Wilson.
